Foundation House is a holistic sober living home with the express purpose of providing safety and reintegration from recovery environments into society with a healthy balanced lifestyle.

Foundation House will create a safe, tranquil, and supportive environment for individuals recovering from addictions. It will promote rehabilitation, reintegration, and a successful return to independent living.

Foundation House will provide hope and a future for people suffering from addiction. We aim to empower our clients through complete transformation into society.

At Foundation House our mission is to provide Life Skills, Individual and Group Therapy, Job Creation, and a Holistic View to complete recovery whereby our clients can go on to live fulfilled and successful lives. We believe that aiding our clients to find Purpose in their lives is the key to success

Our Story

The Inspiration Behind the Foundation House

As Kevin and Debbie du Preez approached retirement, they faced a difficult decision.With the Johannesburg housing market saturated and home values dropping, selling their house of 47 years seemed like the only option. However, the stress of the situation was overwhelming. Yet, through God's grace, compassion, and mercy, a new path was revealed.

Their son, Jacques, had battled drug addiction for many years, frequently in and out of rehab, but had remained sober for several years. During this time, he worked to launch a chili sauce business and became a qualified massage therapist, though the impact of COVID-19 made things challenging.

Given his personal experience with addiction, Jacques saw potential in turning the family home into a sober living space for individuals emerging from rehab, helping them reintegrate into society. After months of prayer and seeking God’s guidance, it became clear that this was the right direction.

Jacques reached out to his longtime friend Michael, and together they shared a vision for what could be. Michael, who had worked closely with many individuals coming out of rehab, was eager to join this mission, knowing the need for a safe space to support recovery.

And so, The Foundation House was born—a beacon of hope for those seeking to rebuild their lives after addiction.

Head Counsellor & Program Manager

Michael Dix

With over a decade of counseling experience, Michael Dix has devoted his career to supporting individuals through a wide range of challenges.

Specializing in addictions, trauma, depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress disorder, Michael has worked across numerous recovery centers and as a private counsellor, empowering hundreds to find healing and freedom.

His expertise extends to addressing complex mental health conditions such as Borderline Personality Disorder and Schizophrenia, where he fosters resilience and promotes lasting transformation in the lives of his clients.

House Manager & Holistic Coach

Jacques du Preez

From a young age, Jacques was shaped by environments lacking emotional awareness and structure, leading to behaviours driven by fear and confusion. Like many others, he struggled to find a healthy path and turned to substance use as a way to cope with emotional pain. It wasn’t until he entered recovery over a decade ago that Jacques began to understand his identity beyond these external experiences.

Recovery taught him that he has a voice and a place in the world. Though the journey hasn’t been easy, it has given him the tools to face his challenges and grow beyond them.

Starting Foundation House has been a long-held dream of Jacques', born from a desire to help others on their journey into recovery. Along with his family and longtime friend, Mike, this has become a reality - providing a space where he hopes to give the same opportunity for growth and healing that he has experienced.

Counsellor & Compliance Manager

Brett Dolling

Brett is a highly experienced professional in the recovery industry, dedicated to helping individuals overcome addiction.

With 10 years of ownership and leadership at Viewpoint Recovery Centre, a drug and alcohol rehabilitation facility, Brett has made a profound impact on the lives of countless individuals battling addiction.

His extensive experience and commitment to recovery have been instrumental in guiding many towards lasting healing and transformation.

Finance, Administration and Operations

Bronwyn du Preez

Bronwyn brings 20 years of expertise in administration and operations to her role.

As the operations lead for Foundation House, she oversees all financial aspects, ensuring that necessary purchases and maintenance are efficiently managed to keep the facility running smoothly.

Additionally, Bronwyn is the daughter of Kevin and Debbie, further deepening her personal connection to the Foundation's mission.

Finance & Administration

Robyn Staffen

Robyn brings 20 years of experience in administration and finance as a seasoned bookkeeper.

As the owner of her own company, she manages all day-to-day operations and financial responsibilities.

At Foundation House, Robyn oversees the financial operations, including invoicing and managing money allocations to ensure smooth financial management.

She is also the niece of Kevin and Debbie, strengthening her personal connection to the organization’s mission.

Kevin and Debbie have generously offered their home to Foundation House, driven by a deep desire to help those in need.

Having faced the challenges of addiction first-hand through their son Jacques' journey, they are passionate about supporting others as they work toward recovery.
